Find Any Map
ClaudecommunityReal historical maps that are free to reuse, from the Library of Congress, USGS and more, checked file by file, each with the reason it's public domain and a credit line.
Wikivec Inc.
Find Any Map finds real historical maps that are free to reuse, for a video, lesson, article, book or research. Describe the map you need, such as "a map of Europe in 1914", "Battle of Gettysburg troop positions" or "Chicago in the 1890s", and it returns matching maps from the Library of Congress and other archives (through their copies on Wikimedia Commons) and from the USGS Historical Topographic Map Collection. Each map comes with its date, its archive, the reason it is public domain in plain words, a credit line and a link to the full-size file. A Sanborn fire insurance atlas comes back as one volume with its sheets, and a USGS topographic map as one quadrangle with every edition, each with GeoTIFF and GeoPDF downloads. Nothing is AI-generated: every result is the archive's own scan. Tools: • search_maps finds maps matching a description, with optional decade or century, map type, archive and safest-licence filters. • get_map shows a map's full archive record, the licence evidence, the credit line, a download link, and a Sanborn volume's sheets or a USGS quadrangle's editions. • credits writes the credit lines for a set of maps, with the reason each one is public domain. • my_usage and whoami show the signed-in account, its plan and searches used. An account is created the first time you sign in (email or Google). 50 searches a month are free; map details, downloads and credit lines are always free. A Pro plan with 2,000 searches a month is described at findanymap.com/pricing. Licences: only maps whose archive record gives a public-domain or CC0 reason are indexed; files that also carry a Creative Commons BY/BY-SA or GFDL licence, and copies from non-commercial collections, are left out. Search text is kept for 31 days to improve the index; the connector doesn't read your conversations, memory or files.
