Bayman L, every split of every athlete

Swim 1.9 km · Bike 91.5 km · Run 21.2 km. Half-iron distance and the largest entry of the weekend: 1.9 km swim, 91.5 km bike, 21.2 km run, with six run checkpoints in the last 21 km. This explorer indexes the full timing data: 874 classified finishers timed on 16 mats, rank at every one of them, leg-by-leg rank flow, and a page per athlete.

Every athlete has a page: leg splits, checkpoint ranks, and their times against the field on each of the five legs.

Athletes move along the real course profile, positions interpolated between the timing mats from their split times.

The five fastest, at their own recorded splits. The badge follows whichever discipline each one is in. The course is drawn as a flat line because the organiser publishes no elevation profile and this site has no GPX for it. The line carries no claim about the terrain. Read the replay as positions in time, and the shaded bands as the discipline each athlete is in.

Leg by leg: who was where, when

The order at the finish has very little to do with the order out of the water. Each line is one of the top 10 finishers; its height is their overall rank at the mat that closes each leg. The x axis is the sequence of legs, not distance, so the five legs get equal width however long they are. A 180 km bike leg and a 100 m transition are one step each.

Not enough mat reads to draw the flow.

Who won each leg

Each leg is timed between two mats and ranked on its own. Winning a leg and winning the race are different jobs.

The transitions

T1 and T2 are timed legs like any other, and in a field this deep they decide real places. The spread is enormous: on this course the gap between the fastest and the median transition is bigger than most people’s margin over the athlete in front.

≈ = the length is not the timing provider’s own measurement. Every checkpoint on these three races carries a course distance published by the timing provider, including the 100 m it assigns to each transition, so nothing on this explorer is interpolated or estimated. Speeds follow the leg: min/100 m for the swim, km/h for the bike, min/km for the run, and nothing at all for a transition, where a published 100 m would turn a two-minute change of shoes into a plausible-looking 3 km/h.

Rankings at every mat

The course had 16 timing mats: who led the race at each one, and how the field spread out. Mats occasionally miss an athlete, which is why some athlete pages show “mat missed” on a leg.

Times we hold back 🏍️

7 segment times in this race are physically implausible for that athlete’s position in the rest of the race, almost certainly a phantom mat read. They stay visible and are excluded from every ranking and stat on this site.

A leg time is held out of these rankings when an athlete who finished outside the top 500, or did not finish at all, beats the fifth-fastest time set on that leg by the top 50 finishers. It is a test for phantom checkpoint reads. It flagged 27 leg times here, 26 of them from athletes who were not classified anyway, plus one bike leg on race L recorded as 6 minutes for 91.5 km. Flagged times stay visible on the athlete’s own page. Because the test compares ranks rather than speeds, it can also catch a fast athlete who abandoned later, so it means "not usable in a ranking", not "cheated".

How to read these numbers

874 finishers, 971 entrants. Athletes who did not start, abandoned, or were ranked by how far they got are all in the dataset, with no rank and no finish time, and are never counted as finishers. You will meet them in the search box and on checkpoint pages, marked with their status.
Every distance here is the timekeeper’s own.
